The Vineland Prevention Board is a 40 member board who works in concert with the Office of the Attorney General's crime prevention initiative. We focus on collaboration,  community empowerment, solutions oriented uas of data, as well as accountability and transperancy. Vineland is one of multiple sites throughout the state who is charged with devloping and implementing a prevention strategy plan.

 

The Vineland Board has been supported and guided by the Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs at Rutgers Univeristy-Camden Campus. WRI brings its cast ecperience and skills of neutral convening and facilitation, data collection, and technical assisstance to the prevention work in Vineland.
 

The VPPB has choden to focus/impact on the following six data points:

  • Juvenile Crima: In the City of Vineland, there were over 900 juvenile arrests for all types of offences in 2009.
  • Child Welfare: In Cumberland-East, which includes Vineland, there were 262 open DYFS cases involving 516 children and 124 children were placed in out of home placement last year.
  • Poverty: A quarter of the people who reside in Vineland are living below the poverty line.
  • Violent Crime: Nearly 30% of Cumberland COunty's crime rate is committed by juveniles.
  • Family: There is roughly 4,840 single parent headed homes in Vineland, or 23.3% of Vineland households in 2007. It is 38.7% of the County's single parent headed.
